Timing Setup Checklist

  • Physical setup
    • Tripod
      • On line
      • Down low enough that refs can see boats over it
    • All three axes of tripod head orientation
    • Tricks
      • Buoy swing for field of view
      • Near wire/far target focus for line alignment
      • Tilt up down for line alignment
    • Field of view
      • Camera
        • “Pro” pointed at center of racing lanes
        • Zoom (zoomed all the way in unless course is right in front like Head of the South)
        • Focus (2/3 across course so smaller bow numbers farther away have better focus)
      • Finishlynx
        • Zoom (100% for normal courses. 150% for courses farther away from finish tower)
        • Vertical resolution (1360@100% zoom or 1500@150% zoom)
      • Lighting
        • Aperture
          • Set as high as possible (22) in most lighting conditions. Gives better depth of focus.
          • Bring down to middle settings (8) in lower light conditions. Allows more light in.
        • Auto-brightness (30-60) depending on light. Lower is darker.
        • Camera hardware light settings (low,normal,high)
  • Computer
    • Wifi connected
    • Race Director, Referee, & results page open
    • Capture plunger/switch in correct USB port
    • Mouse connected
    • No other USB devices connected (might interfere with capture or scoreboard)
  • Console app config
    • RaceId
    • FinishLynxPosition
  • Virtual Serial Port (COM5, IP: 127.0.0.1, Port: 4000) “Opened” & “Connected”
  • Right before booting the camera, open the NetTime NTP client and click “Sync Now”
  • Finishlynx software
    • Lynx EVT file updated and loaded
    • Orientation left/right
    • Scoreboard COM port set
    • Video plunger/switch works
    • Options -> General -> Competition Name
    • Directories
      • Directory is: c:\lynx\output\[year]\[regatta]
      • Options->Event->Event Directory
      • Options->Event->Backup Directory
      • Options->Database->Output Directory
    • Round trip test
      • Open first flight
      • Take video
      • Enter a time for first entry
      • MOST IMPORTANT: Check that time appears in referee app
      • Delete time when done in Silverlight interface
      • Close and reopen the flight in finishlynx without saving to have clean data
    • Chief Judge iPad
      • Fully charged or plugged in
      • Screen cleaned with windex
      • National Team Races: Referee logged in with own account
      • Correct race
      • Set to Timing page
      • National Team Races: Referee signs off digitally with own account
